牛津學者預約死後冷凍

為了打破死亡不是人生必然的觀念，3位牛津大學學者支付高額費用，預約死後接受冷凍保存，希望未來有機會死而復生。

根據英國「獨立報」（The Independent），牛津大學未來人類研究所（Future of Humanity Institute, FHI）哲學教授波斯特魯姆（NickBostrom）和同僚桑德柏格（Anders Sandberg）2人，已同意付錢給美國的阿爾科生命延續基金會（Alcor Life Extension Foundation），讓基金會在他們死期將屆時，割下他們的頭顱冷凍保存。

阿爾科生命延續基金會位於美國亞利桑那州斯科斯岱（Scottsdale）。

另一名同僚阿姆斯壯（Stuart Armstrong）則選擇全身冷凍，但這在技術上較困難，費用可高達13萬英鎊。

他們3人都是FHI的首席研究人員，不過學校目前並沒有人類低溫保存的學術研究，於是他們參加阿爾科生命延續基金會的人壽保險，每月負擔最多45英鎊保費，作為死後將自己冷凍所需的資金。

在他們被認為病入膏肓時，冷凍團隊將在旁待命，一旦醫師宣告不治，工作人員就會在遺體冰冷的同時，利用1台機器保持血液流動，且注入防腐及防凍劑保護組織。

若僅是要冷凍頭顱，則僅取這部分，接著再利用氮氣將溫度降至攝氏負124度，病患在被送進低溫保存設施時，最後溫度在攝氏負196度。這些人體將儲存在液態氮中，等到科技進步到足以使他們復活。
